Welcome 

Laura Sippos is a teaching and working artist in Pittsburgh, who creates a wide variety of work in all 2D mediums.  She exemplifies lifelong learning, beginning in her youth at the Carnegie Museum where she was awarded a scholarship to attend the pre-college program at Carnegie Mellon University. Throughout her years raising her three sons as a single parent, she made time to attend demonstrations and courses by local artists, figure drawing sessions, online programs and recently graduated from Community College of Allegheny County at the age of 51.    

Employed full time as a civil servant managing human services programs for the region, she devotes much of her free time to the world of art. Laura was the community education director for South Arts Pittsburgh where she also displayed her work in group exhibitions and taught classes. Currently she is an active member of Greater Pittsburgh Arts Council and McMurray Art League, where she is named artist of the month for April 2024. 

 

Teaching art is where Laura truly comes alive. With a teaching philosophy that motivates any age to see the world in a new way, and express themselves freely, she strives to make high-quality learning accessible and enjoyable to all. It is her goal to continue to create more opportunities in the community to share her belief that anyone can create beautiful and meaningful art. 

 

Recently, Laura has been focused on creating mixed media work with upcycled materials, that bring to life notions of progress in communities and humanity. You can see her work at McMurray Art League, the Galleria Mall and Peter’s Township Library this spring, 2024.
